Surgical Treatment for de Quervain’s Tendinitis

Surgery for de Quervain’s tenosynovitis is largely successful; with patients have experiencing near immediate relief from symptoms shortly after the procedure. Surgery is done to open the compartment that encases the tendons, which helps with pain, swelling, and improves hand/wrist motion and grip strength. This is an outpatient procedure, completed under local anesthesia. After surgery, patients typically wear a splint for a few weeks, thereafter normal activities can be gradually resumed, with a release to full activity at around 6 weeks post surgery.
